Team Spotlight: Rob Jermyn, From Apprentice to Manufacturing Lead

Meet Rob Jermyn, who has been with Insulcon Technical since 2012. Based at our North Shields manufacturing facility, Rob’s journey from apprentice to production lead reflects what it really means to grow with a business.

Getting Started on the Shop Floor

Rob joined the company straight out of school at 18. His early days were spent doing hands-on work, packing and filling thermal insulation jackets by hand. It was manual, detailed work that laid the foundations for everything he would go on to learn.

“I used to cut materials by hand and pack everything manually,” Rob says. “Now, with the new equipment we have, things move much faster, and the quality is better as ever. The job has completely evolved.”

Leading a Busy Manufacturing Facility

Now 31, Rob leads the day-to-day running of our insulation systems production. From raw materials arriving at the warehouse to finished systems leaving the facility, he oversees every step of the process.

Rob’s role involves managing the production of a wide variety of industrial insulation products, including flexible thermal and passive fire protection systems. These are used in critical environments such as offshore oil rigs, marine vessels, university energy centres, and industrial sites.

“No two days are the same. Each job brings something new. Since I started, the product range has really expanded. We now do everything from thermal insulation to passive fire protection.”

Taking That Experience Offshore

Rob’s experience goes beyond the factory. Over the years, he has taken his skills into the field, working offshore in the North Sea and across the Middle East, installing insulation systems in tough and remote environments.

One project that stands out took him to Dubai.

“I was involved from start to finish. I helped cut the materials, do the engineering, pack everything, then flew out to install it. The conditions were tough, really hot, but seeing it all come together made it worth it. I was proud to be involved in that project.”

The Team Behind the Work

For Rob, what makes the job rewarding is not just the projects, but the people.

“The team here is great. Everyone gets stuck in, helps each other out, and there is always a bit of banter.”

Looking Ahead

With more demand than ever for energy-efficient and protective insulation systems, Rob is optimistic about the future of the company and his role within it.

“We have got a lot going on. There are plans to grow the team and keep improving the workshop. I am looking forward to developing new ways of working and improving how we do things. It is a good time to be here.”
